Loved this book!

Catie Brown

I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would- mostly due to the wit from the protagonist。

The hype is well deserved… surpassed my expectations! Smart, funny, emotional and original! Just read it!

If you like books with strong female characters, this is a must read。 I loved it。“…she only ever seemed to bring out the worst in men。 They either wanted to control her, touch her, dominate her, silence her, correct her, or tell her what to do。”Favorite quote: “Because while stupid people may not know they’re stupid because they’re stupid, surely unattractive people must know they’re unattractive because of mirrors。”

Merit Floerke

Fun, unique, daring。 I love her determination and persistence。 We make our own choices。

Laugh out loud funny??? Hardly。 I know this has been on the bestsellers list for a long time。 I decided to see why。 Its appeal?? Entertaining! My favorite character was the dog。 I like the villain vs。 hero theme throughout。 I recommend this book when you feel like reading something light。

Well written tragic love story with underlying issues of the 1960s USA。 Ending was predictable, but much needed after what the main character endured。

Teresa Moyer

Spectacular Spectacular on so many levels! You will love all of the quirky characters and the look back at the inequality of women。

Suzanne

4 5 stars。 I really liked his book - the writing and the story。

Gail

Great book! Fun to read, but also insightful。

Pablo

Amazing read。。。Loved this book。 At times infuriating and frustrating, at times full of pain, and also compassion and love。Worth staying with it。。。

I loved this book! I loved the intelligent, pragmatic Elizabeth Zott。 I felt her struggles, and understand how even though men have behaved badly towards us, smart women find a way to move on。 All of the characters were so well developed!

Marsha

A tale of patriarchy, in which the good men are very good, and the bad men are very bad。 Ultimately, the protagonist triumphs in a rather incredible ending。

Liz Lucius

I loved everything about this book

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 While the characters were likable, this book is mis marketed。 It is political and repeatedly addresses the character’s beliefs。 While I don’t hold anyone’s religious views against them, the author is often hostile and seems intolerant when writing the Christian characters。 This book should be marketed as what it is。 It is not really funny or quirky。

For some reason, I just had a feeling this book would drag for me, and I I've been putting off reading it for months, but I loved it。 10/10。 I love being a woman! Best book I’ve read this year

A rough beginning, but very enjoyable once I got into it。 Content warning: graphic description of sexual assault in an early chapter。

Great book!

This book feels hard to rate。 Was i crying as I finished it? Yes, I was。 Was it written in a smooth fashion that I was able to swallow it up in one cozy weekend。 Yes, it was。 But there was still something about this book that I did not love。 I think the humor does not work at all times。 It's like it's trying to walk an absurdist humor line while also taking itself so seriously。 I enjoyed the read but not in the way i do with books I love where i need to shout it from the rooftops。 This book feels hard to rate。 Was i crying as I finished it? I loved it, and I had to stay up to finish it。 It is very true to the 60s women's lives。 I plan to watch the appletv version soon。 I loved it, and I had to stay up to finish it。 It is very true to the 60s women's lives。 I plan to watch the appletv version soon。 。。。more

I didn’t actually enjoy this clever story。 Great characters and interesting story, but the meanness of people was so constant and awful。 Not enjoyable until the last third if the book。

One of the best books I’ve read in a long, long time。 Irreverent。 Heartwarming。 Heartbreaking。 Confounding。 Confronting。 A time capsule for women of those times, a bright review of how we’ve risen, with harsh reminders of how far we haven’t。 And yet, we’re not hit over the head with it。 It hits you in the solar plexus。 Less is more。 Its measured。 And it lasts。 This one will be with me for awhile。 A woman who dared to be a scientist first。 A surprise lover。 An unexpected mom。 And a national sensa One of the best books I’ve read in a long, long time。 Irreverent。 Heartwarming。 Heartbreaking。 Confounding。 Confronting。 A time capsule for women of those times, a bright review of how we’ve risen, with harsh reminders of how far we haven’t。 And yet, we’re not hit over the head with it。 It hits you in the solar plexus。 Less is more。 Its measured。 And it lasts。 This one will be with me for awhile。 A woman who dared to be a scientist first。 A surprise lover。 An unexpected mom。 And a national sensation。 Must read。 。。。more

John Frankham

A very uneven and overlong book making serious points in a humorous way about the difficulty for women to be taken seriously at work and in life in the 1950s and 1960s。Pretty tedious for 300 pages, then effective and affective in bringing the plot to a conclusion in the last 90 pages。If it hadn’t been a book club choice I would have abandoned it early on。
